Job Goal:

Create and provide a wide range of professional development and services, develop products, and participate in special project activities in the areas of Advanced Academics and Post-Secondary Readiness responsibilities that support the ESC’s core purpose and strategic goals.

 

Qualifications:

Education

Master’s degree

 

Certification

      Texas Teacher Certificate for the appropriate content and grade levels

 

Experience

  1. Three years of experience in leadership positions related to advanced academics
  2. Five years of teaching experience with students identified as gifted and talented
  3. Experience in developing and presenting professional development

Special Knowledge and Skills

  1. Broad-based knowledge of gifted and talented policy that includes research; identification of gifted/talented students in underserved populations; Texas Performance Standards Project; Texas State Plan for the Education of Gifted/Talented Students; instructional coaching; and program evaluation
  2. Broad-based knowledge of Advanced Academic topics, trends, and the connection to state accountability and College, Career, and Military Readiness (CCMR)
  3. Exemplary written and oral communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Gifted and Talented Supplemental Certificate
  2. Principal Certificate or equivalent
  3. Experience in facilitating and/or creating online courses

Major Responsibilities:

  1. Provide leadership and technical assistance in the developing, planning, implementing, and evaluation of gifted and talented and advanced academic services and programs to district leaders. 
  2. Assist in activities related to compliance with state and federal laws, the State Board of Education rules and regulations, and the Texas Education and Administrative Code. 
  3. Develop, present, and facilitate effective professional development virtually, hybrid and face-to-face.
  4. Develop products to support instruction and programming.
  5. Provide technical assistance and customized services in the aeas of gifted and talented and advanced academic services and programs.
  6. Provide leadership in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating innovative professional development, services, and products in the area(s) of responsibility.
  7. Assist with planning and implementation of ongoing needs assessment and services for Region 4 customer districts and charter schools.
  8. Participate in developing and facilitating leadership networks among Region 4 customer district personnel.
  9. Provide training, technical assistance, coaching, and support to district and campus leaders.
  10. Ability to set goals, develop and meet timelines and work with limited supervision. 
  11. Assist in planning and developing special project activities, e.g., grant proposals, interdepartmental services, demonstration sites, research studies, and other customer-based projects.
  12. Engage in professional development to maintain knowledge and skills in area(s) of responsibility.
  13. Keep current in state and federal rules, regulations, and policies related to the area(s) of gifted and talented education, advanced academics, and CCMR.
  14. Provide technical assistance and services as specified by any applicable federal grant that funds this position.
  15. Write, manage, and monitor grants related to gifted and talented education.
  16. Participate in state-level functions related to area(s) of responsibility. 
  17. Develop and maintain positive collaborative partnerships with various organizations that promote the products and services of the ESC.

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors/ Mental Demands:

Frequent use of standard office equipment; prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; repetitive hand motions (keyboarding and use of mouse); occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 20 pounds); may work prolonged and irregular hours; occasional statewide travel; work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under pressure.
